Ann finally hit the 10,000km
milestone about a week before
its scheduled quarterly
Toyota
maintenance.
It was a very memorably milestone because a thief smashed my
right rear passenger window and stole my laptop. It happened between
4:50 PM
and 5:20 PM while Ann was parked in an empty lot beside Ala Crème in
San Fernando,
Pampanga.
The stolen item was a 4-5 year old
IBM Thinkpad X40. It
hardly has any market value anymore - but I lost all my pictures and
files.
That is what hurts the most.
I was the third victim that day. The second victim was a San
Miguel employee who was attending a seminar at Gracelane. His bag
mostly contained
business documents and had little value to the thieves. Hence, it was
stashed underneath
my car – right behind my front right tire.
At around 6:30 PM in the
San Fernando
police station, the 2
nd
victim arrived in his Toyota Revo to claim his bag. His Toyota Revo had
the
same window smashed in his car. The 2
nd victim
was so happy and
relieved to get his belongings even though a few items were missing.
I couldn’t help but narrate to him the trauma that his bag
experienced underneath my car. Earlier, none of us wanted to touch his
bag for
fear that it may be a bomb. Hence, the police had to call in their bomb
disposal unit.
There methods were crude but effective. They simply tied
one
end of a plastic rope on the bag. Then, they pulled the bag away from
my car at
a safe distance – at least 30 meters away. It was a funny experience
too
because he was pulling the bag in our direction where it could explode
near us.
Hahaha!
